Metamask Card Review: Cashback, Fees, & Perks
MetaMask Card connects a self-custodial MetaMask wallet to Mastercard, allowing cardholders to spend supported crypto without transferring it into a separate custodial card balance. Funds remain in the selected account until a transaction is made, with MetaMask Card converting the chosen asset into fiat at checkout.
The free Virtual card earns 1% back in mUSD and supports Apple Pay and Google Wallet. Existing Metal cardholders receive higher spending limits, 3% mUSD back on the first $10,000 spent each year, and additional card benefits.
The card is best suited to existing MetaMask users who want to spend assets directly from their wallet. Its multi-network funding support is a particular strength, although the fee paid depends on the asset, currency, and transaction type.
Eligible users can apply for the free Virtual card, although new card sign-ups seem to be temporarily paused in the United States. Existing US cardholders can continue using their cards.

Card Fees
MetaMask separates its card fees into token-conversion, cross-border, ATM, and network charges. Stablecoins denominated in the cardholder’s local currency or the merchant’s local currency carry no token fee. A 0.5% fee applies when the stablecoin is denominated in neither currency, with a separate exception for USD-denominated cards in Argentina.
DeFi tokens and tokenised yield assets can be spent without a conversion fee on up to $1,200 per month, after which a 0.5% fee applies. Other cryptocurrencies, including wETH, carry a 0.875% conversion fee.

Paymentscan Testing
We paid 4.99 PLN using the free Virtual card and were charged $1.353. Based on the reference rate at the time of 1 USD to 3.765 PLN, this represented an effective cost of approximately 1.7%.
This was a small transaction, so currency rounding could materially affect the percentage.
Funding Your MetaMask Card
MetaMask Card does not require a conventional card top-up. Cardholders approve a spending limit for a supported token, and the assets remain in the selected MetaMask account until they are spent.
A MetaMask Money Account can also be linked as the primary funding source. The available Money Account balance then becomes the card’s spending limit without requiring a network fee for the initial approval.
| Network | Supported Assets |
|---|---|
| Linea | mUSD, USDC, USDT, wETH, EURe, and GBPe |
| Solana | USDC and USDT |
| Base | USDC, USDT, wETH, and EURC |
| Monad | USDC |
Cardholders can approve multiple tokens and arrange them in spending priority order. If the first asset cannot cover a transaction, the card moves to the next approved asset.
Additional Features
MetaMask Card Travel
MetaMask Card Travel is operated in partnership with Entravel. It provides discounted hotel rates and 4% mUSD back at checkout.
The card reward is added on top of this travel benefit. Virtual cardholders can therefore receive a total of 5% mUSD back, while existing Metal cardholders can receive 7%.
Blackbird Dining Rewards
MetaMask Cardholders earn 5X Blackbird $FLY per dollar when paying through the Blackbird app at participating US restaurants. New Blackbird users also receive a 2,000 $FLY welcome bonus.
Existing Metal cardholders earn 7X $FLY and can activate a 90-day trial of Blackbird Club Regular status. Spending $1,000 during the trial retains that status through 31 December 2027.
Availability and User Experience
The Virtual card is available to users in eligible countries. New US sign-ups are temporarily paused, and MetaMask requires proof of residency during onboarding. Metal card orders are also temporarily unavailable to new users.
Our onboarding took approximately 10 minutes. We provided our legal name, date of birth, residential address, government-issued identification, and facial video verification.
We tested the process on an iPhone. Adding the card to Apple Pay required us to enter the details manually and select the alternative issuer option when the expected bank name did not appear. MetaMask also supports manual addition to Google Wallet.
Who Is MetaMask Card Best For?
MetaMask Card is strongest for people who already use MetaMask and want to spend supported assets without moving them into a separate custodial card account. The free Virtual card combines 1% mUSD back with multi-network funding and relatively high daily spending limits.
Existing Metal cardholders receive meaningfully better rewards, limits, and travel benefits. However, new users cannot currently order the physical Metal card.
